In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years and haven’t noticed, workout clothes have moved from the gym to everyday apparel. They are everywhere…and I don’t just mean those buttery soft leggings everyone is always talking about. I’m talking legit “I just left the gym” clothing.
Truthfully, a part of me is a little happy about this. I recently saw a woman at the airport wearing workout clothes and she wasn’t even running to her gate! Crazy, right?
I’ll get to my favorites, but do you know WHY it is important to wear the right workout apparel?
First, wearing the right gear gives you confidence that you aren’t going to have a costume malfunction. If you’re in a fitness class and the instructor tells you to jump or do a headstand you won’t be worried that you’ll show off any body parts you don’t want to. Believe me, it happens.
Second, the right fitting apparel for the right activity can keep you focused. No tugging and pulling and adjusting needed when you are dressed correctly for your workout.
Third, just like in non-gym life, the right outfit can make you feel like you can take on the world. When you feel like that, you work harder and keep at it longer. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!
So, now that you know why it’s important to be dressed the right way, here are my go-to brands and little bit about each:
My top picks $$$
Athleta and Lululemon are high quality, comfortable, lasting workout wear. Each piece is designed around a body type and an activity so if you are doing yoga or hiking a mountain you can wear what is appropriate. Lululemon offers complimentary hemming and Athleta has a selection of clothing that uses silver salts in the fabric – that means no more stinky workout clothes.
Gapfit and online specialty shops like Fabletics can give you great choices. They offer cute workout wear that you feel confident in and love to wear.
There is usually something new, and it is an awesome way to motivate yourself – every 30 days a new top? Every 10 pounds fun, new leggings? You get the idea. There are tons of online shopping sites to pick from. Express yourself with a tank or t-shirt from online stores like Cross Training Couture or Moxie Fitness.
My go-to workout capri leggings when I sold LuLaRoe was their Jades. They have a comfortable and flattering yoga waistband to ensure you’ll look and feel good, no matter where you are on your fitness journey. Their technical moisture-wicking fabric keeps you comfortable. They even have a reflective logo on the back leg to help drivers see you after dark. They come in a crazy amount of prints, so there’s something for everyone! With a price tag around $60 I still think they are a decent deal.
On a Budget $
If you are just getting back in to fitness and want to look the part without laying down the dough, try budget retailers like Old Navy, Target (check the clearance rack) and off-price department stores like Marshalls and TJMaxx. You can find great outfits without the price tag until you are ready to up your workout game.
A range of choices and options means you have what you need no matter the activity, the weather, or your mood. Your outfit should help you feel confident and self- assured ready to take on whatever is thrown your way.
