How to Find Time to Workout Even When You are Busy

February 24, 2018 By Angie Sanders Leave a Comment

Finding time to workout when you are busy is difficult. For a lot of people working out is what gets put on the back burner in lieu of so many other things to do. Even though we know all the benefits of working out, it isn’t always our top priority to do so. So, what can you do?

1. Plan accordingly.

If you know you have a super busy week, look ahead and block out some time to sweat. It might not be your usual time, or your usual class or instructor, but make sure you get there. You might be surprised to find you love it! Planning ahead will help relieve a lot of the stress from the week, too. Treat your workout like any other appointment on your to-do list and you’ll know you have time to workout, too.

2. Raise the Intensity.

Some weeks it is just plain impossible to find a full hour to workout each day, especially if you are adding a commute, and a shower to that time. So, why not burn a ton of calories and kick some booty in a 20 -30 minute workout instead? Get into High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or Tabata training to get the most bang for your buck. It’ll be a fun way to mix it up and you’ll get all the benefits of a nice, long workout with all the minutes dedicated.

3. Prioritize.

You hear all the time that if you just prioritize your time you will be fine. Well, I am here to tell you that sometimes life gets in the way! Sometimes other things – like family or major projects at work – are just flat more important than the class you planned to take at the YMCA. It’s life! Don’t be too hard on yourself. However, also take a moment to be honest with yourself. Are you allowing unimportant things to creep into your workout time? Are you procrastinating or making excuses? Just be honest with yourself and you’ll get this tip in line.

4. Incorporate the Important People.

Workout alongside your family members and friends by incorporating them into your workout needs. There are several mommy programs out there that allow you to bring the kiddos along and even engage them throughout the workout. There are activities that are better with spouses and plenty of classes that can be taken right alongside friends. If you feel pulled in a ton of different directions, try to find a way to combine some of what is pulling at you into active “dates”.

5. Go Easy on Yourself

No, I don’t mean go easy DURING your workout! I mean give yourself some grace. Some weeks are just plain tough. Start again, start new and keep going. We’ve all been there and I believe you can get through it!

5 Things Parents of Special Needs Kids Need to Know

I have to admit this post has been sitting in my blog for a bit…waiting on me to hit the Publish button. I’m not sure if it’s because it seems so much more personal than most things I write about or when it comes to parenting, I try to avoid giving advice.  Each child is so […]
