I’ll be the first to admit, I have a lot to learn to be really good at doing my makeup…but I do have favorite makeup products that I want to share with you. I love it when my girlfriends share things that they find work really well, and while I certainly don’t claim to know it all, I can definitely share what I have found works well for me! Isn’t that what BFFS do? Cause seriously, if you’re reading my blog, I have a picture of you in my head…it’s how I share what’s on my heart…and I gotta say- “You’re looking pretty dang cute today, girl!”
So here we go:
Remember, these are MY favorites and just because I like them, doesn’t mean you have to. I’m just sharing what I’ve found works for me- a 50ish year old mom who wants her makeup routine to be easy, quick and leave me looking put together, but not overly made up.
1. SmashBox Cosmetics “Photo Finish” Foundation Primer
After 30 years someone finally convinced me to use a primer on my face before applying makeup. I suppose that might make me seem a bit stubborn? But serio
usly, it makes a huge difference- for not only how much longer my makeup looks good, but on how it goes on. Do yourself a favor and try one. You can find my current favorite here. I feel like it helps fill in fine lines and after spending my younger years worshiping the sun, I can use all the help I can get!
2. Maskara Beauty Palettes
I was just introduced to this relatively new line. It’s a direct sales company, so you order thru one of their “artists” who may or may not know more than you do about makeup application, but I’ve found most are pretty knowledgeable about their products. Just use google to search for the TONS of tutorials available. This line is completely different than any other makeup I’ve ever used, but I love how it makes my skin look and once you figure out how to use it, it’s super quick to apply. You can find more information on this line here.
3. Senegence BlushSense
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found that cream-based products seem to work best on my skin. I love the Terra Cotta color in this blush. It’s comes in a tiny tube, but lasts forever! I’m sure you know someone that is a consultant/distributor, but if not click here to find the link to their main site.
I think eye liner is the hardest product for me. I change up how I do my eyes a lot- sometimes soft & smokey other times I prefer a cool cat eye look . I’m constantly on the search for a liner that I like better, but right now these are the two I’m using. I love the cool colors UB comes in, but let’s be real about how many times I’m going to use a bright blue eye liner in my everyday life. Maybelline is my number one go-to, with the UB as my second choice. I do love this color, though!
5. Younique Eye Moodstruck Addiction Shadow Palette
As I’ve “matured”, I’ve found I love eye shadows but I don’t necessarily like how they look on me. (Talk about 1st world problems! Haha) It seems so many are “sparkly” these days and for me that just highlights my wrinkles and yells “HEY! I’m getting old!” Well, that’s probably an exaggeration, but it is harder to wear frosty colors, which is why I tend to look for matte or satin finishes. Who knew that wrinkly eye lids were even a thing. I’ve been using Younique’s Moodstruck Addiction for a year or so now and love that it comes in several palettes. My favorite is #3 (the shades of purple work well with my green eyes), but there are 4 others you can pick from. Check it out here.
Another of my favorite products from Younique is their Epic Mascara. I’ve been using their Lash Serum, too, and I do see a difference. Not quite the lashes that my daughter was naturally blessed with, yet. She has lashes for days, but she definitely didn’t get them from her mama.
I have several Younique gals that I shop with. I’m happy to connect you to one of my favorite Presenters if you don’t have one.
6. Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
I love this stuff so much. If you want your makeup to stay in place, this is the product you want. This would have been so nice to know about when I was in my 20s and actually needed my makeup to stay on all night. These days it just needs to me past 10-11 and we’re golden. Setting spray really works, ya’ll! You can find it here.
7. Senegence Lipsense
I really feel like there are so many types of lipsticks out there that finding a favorite should be easy for you. I’m loving Senegence right now. There are tons of colors to pick from. Right now I’m enjoying Sazzy Z, B Ruby, and Nude. I’ve found you need to invest in their glosses, too, otherwise they just aren’t as appealing. My go-to gloss is Sand, but first-time buyers might prefer just going with a clear. I love that I can create different colors just by layering the shades. This lip-licker can attest- the staying power of this line is amazing!
So there you have it!
My daily go-to’s for work and a night out. Quite honestly, there are days where I wear all the products and some days, I just use a tinted moisturizer, concealer and a little mascara. Whether you’re all dolled up or prefer a more natural look, both are just fine. I think the goal in wearing makeup should be to enhance what we have, not cover it all up. For me, makeup just helps me feel more confident. Plus, I find it’s fun to play around with.
When I was a teen and spent hours looking through style magazines trying to copy the latest looks, I remember my dad telling me it didn’t matter how pretty girls looked on the outside if they weren’t pretty on the inside. That has always stuck with me and it sure is the truth, huh? I think I’ve also heard something about putting lipstick on a pig…but let’s save that story for another day. If you’re struggling with your confidence, check out one of my favorite blog posts here.
Hope what I’ve shared with you has inspired you to check out a new product or two. Sharing things I find work well for me along with my favorite styling tips and tricks.
